Mark J Hillyer is a York wedding photographer with decades of experience photographing weddings throughout York and the surrounding areas. I’m friendly, professional and creative, telling a story with every photo I take. Working in a natural and candid style allows me to create wedding photos that are characterised entirely by your personality and the unique events that shape your wedding day.
My Photography Style
While I do offer group shots, my focus is always on capturing the unguarded and unposed moments. I always find that those are the photos that are the most special. It could be the moment you see your partner at the other end of the aisle, the expression on your nephew’s face when he spots the cake, or the crazy moves offered up by your best friend on the dance floor! I capture every moment that makes your wedding uniquely yours.
Humour is a big part of how I work. I love capturing the silly parts as much as the romantic. It’s when all the emotions of a day come together that the photos create a realistic portrayal of the atmosphere and feel of the day. For years to come, your final collection of wedding photos will immerse you back into not just how your day looked, but how you felt.
If you’re looking for a York wedding photographer, I would love to hear from you. There’s nothing I like more than having a chat with a potential client, learning about your plans and how I can help.
Wedding Photography York
I’ve lived and worked near York for years now and think it’s a fantastic city with some beautiful places both in the centre and in the surrounding areas. Whether you’re having a wedding at Sandburn Hall, Aldwark Manor, the Hospitium or Bedern Hall, I would love to be there to help you document it.
With all the choice of wedding photographers in York, what makes Mark J Hillyer Photography different?
Natural Wedding Photography
A photographer’s style is one of the most important factors to consider when you’re choosing a wedding photographer. Every one of us has a different way of taking photos and a different focus. For me, it’s telling a story. Images are incredibly powerful and every single one has a story behind it, be it a joke that was told, the history of a relationship, that song that came on… whatever it may be, it’s my job to bring out the story of your wedding day in every photo.
My natural, reportage style creates a set of photos that are marked by the unique shape of your character as a couple, the personalities of all your friends and guests, and the atmosphere of your day. It’s this style that sets me apart from other York wedding photographers.
Friendly and Experienced
I also consider myself to be an ordinary, friendly face at your wedding. I don’t want to draw attention to the camera or the cameraman, but to blend into the day, be a helpful hand and photograph everything that happens.
Not everyone is as comfortable as others with having their photo taken, but I work with you and your guests. I get to know you, what makes you tick and check you’re comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding. I love to give you an engagement shoot too so I can get to know you (and vice versa!) before the big day. That way, you don’t have to think about anything on your wedding except enjoying the experience.
I’m also happy to chat to those of your guests who feel a bit awkward in front of the camera, helping them to relax so you get photos of everyone!
York Wedding Venues
I have experience photographing weddings in a huge number of different York wedding venues. I’m yet to experience a bad venue, but some definitely stand out! For a rural York wedding, I recently visited The Normans, just outside York, which was a truly beautiful place. The staff went above and beyond to help the married couple and make the day special.
